Elderslie Little Oaks Preschool

About Us

Q: Who are we?

A: We are a parent committee run preschool with charity status providing learning through play for one to five year olds. The children’s learning and development is supported by qualified teaching staff. Our charity number is 1091195. We are also registered with and inspected by Ofsted.

Q: What does ‘parent committee run’ mean?

A: It means that the parents are primarily involved in the management of the non-educational side of the preschool. The parent committee is there to ensure the teaching staff can concentrate on the most important thing, your child’s learning and development. We welcome and encourage parent participation and assistance in running activities during preschool sessions.

Q: What is our philosophy?

A: We feel that the first step to a child learning and developing is trust, security and wellbeing. We are committed to providing high quality care for your children so that every child can achieve their full potential. We aim to ensure a safe, happy, stimulating and fun environment where your children can learn through play and make new friends. We work within an approved and inclusive curriculum framework, which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families.

Q: What can we offer?

A: We have a wide range of early years appropriate equipment, toys, books, activities, computers and software, as well as our own well stocked and maintained outside play area, baby room and classroom. We develop a specially tailored planning system based on approved curriculum learning outcomes. We offer individual care and attention, which is made possible by a high ratio of adults to children (we have decided on a maximum of 24 children per session). We offer fun and friendship with children and other adults and the support of a key person. There are also opportunities for you and your family to be directly involved in the activities of the group and in your own child’s progress if you wish. We also offer a limited level of support for children with special educational needs and physical disabilities.

We have recently started to provide care for 1-2 year olds in a baby room area. This consists of a high level of care provided by adults focussing on the individual needs of up to three babies within each available session. Age appropriate play equipment and resources are available as well as sleeping and eating facilities.

Elderslie Little Oaks is Ofsted governed and has received high marks on all three of it’s inspections since re-opening as a charity in 2002. The latest report can be viewed on the Ofsted website. We have, until recently, been known as Elderslie Nursery school. The preschool/nursery school has been running for 75 years and was started by Lady Prideaux in Ockley.
